Great Power house unit, Network needs a firmware! September 4, 2010

I purchased this unit back in late June and initially it was an awesome experience, with plenty of power.
I hooked up all nine channels and the sound was clear , articulated and just awesome. This unit does weigh alot so make sure you have enough room to hook up the wiring.
I have no regrets for this purchase, but have been experiencing alot of problems with the Server function, for some reason sometimes the unit doesn't connect to my server, I have reset my modem and even switched router ports, but ultimately the only thing the works is resetting the unit. This is a pain in the R#$%#$% cos it erases the speaker equalization settings and everything else. I have done this two times in the past two months and its a bit annoying.
After calling Onkyo, they said that if this problem persist it would have to be serviced. I wish they really addressed this problem with a firmware or something.
So if you dont care about the internet compatibility either ignore this function or downgrade to a lower unit in Onkyo series.
This is why i give it a 4, but when it works 100% it's awesome!

Bought one to replace my Onkyo TX-SR875. I thought that sound and quality was not going to be too different, but NO! the quality and power of sound are truly amazing. Compared with a top end Denon or Yamaha this receiver has a much much better price/features relation. Setup was piece of cake, despite after running the Audissey I didn't like the configuration, so I changed it manually. Connection to the network was a snap, internet radio works flawlessly, finds all my network media devices with no problem (UPnP or Windows), the GUI is better than its previous devices, the firmware update run smoothly and without any issue, and so on. The "clicking" sound that some person mentioned is almost not noticeable (compared to the TX-SR875 I had to pay attention to listen the clicks in this super box) and by setup can be eliminated defining default sound for each source. Use some good speakers with it (if you put cheap boxes you will be wasting your money with this receiver then) and put it in a reasonably big room (30 sqm at least) to experience its true power. And, yes, it gets hot, but nothing to worry about it. Simply, do not cover the top ventilation and you will not have any problems. The only negative comment I can do is that I almost break my spine lifting this super-heavy baby... :-))

Best Receiver I've ever owned. It's the Ultimate!!
The only feature that it lacks is an a/c outlet (switched) on back of unit. The receiver is extremely versatile and fulfills all my power and accessory requirements. I highly recommend this Receiver!

I did need to do a firmware update to this unit, but once accomplished.... Fantastic performance. The video processing and audio capabilities of this unit are unrivaled at this price point. No regrets whatsoever.
